Therefore, the centrality of the martial relationship takes precedence over every other human connection and is considered the optimal way to live. According to Blu Greenberg, the entire success of the covenant rests on the marriage premise and its procreative impulses as established in the Torah. Interestingly, Greenberg pens that the ultimate paradigm for the relationship between G-d and the Jewish people, patterns a marriage with its highs and lows, which is synonymous to an earthly marriage between a man and a woman.

Generally, most Christian and Messianic believers view marriage as a gift from G-d and a lifetime commitment. (Genesis 1:26-28, 2:18 & 24) Yet, Don and Sally Meredith rightly pens
that most believers, even mature believers do not have a firm biblical perspective on marriage. A firm biblical perspective about marriage is certainly an initial and necessary step for couples to
have and maintain. However, without the practical application of a biblical view or perspective of marriage, many couples endure the violence of divorce, or misery and frustration.

Author Reb Bradley contends that most people marry in order to have emotional and romantic needs met which is contrary to G-d’s design. G-d’s marital design suggests Bradley is to shape His people into the image of Messiah. Therefore, a personal critique of one’s marital relationship would cause one to ponder, “Am I demonstrating the image or character of Messiah?” In other words, am I willing to die to self for the sake of my mate? Marriages are multidimensional and serve many purposes as G-d’s gift to humankind. Marriage functions beyond the individuals and their nuclear family. Marriage points to G-d’s plan for humankind through the reflection of His image, procreation and as a testimony to the world.

However, divorce is widespread and the variations in divorce rates are minuscule between believers and non-believers. According to the Barna Group’s report of March 2008, Christians who are not evangelical were indistinguishable from the national average of 33%, and evangelicals and non-evangelicals differ in divorce rates by 1% at 32% and 33% respectively. Barna contends that while this news is alarming, the effectiveness of how churches ministers to families in a truly practical and life-changing manner raises additional questions.

The underlying reason for all divorce is truly rooted in the sin factor and the unwillingness of the spouses to die to self. What can the Body of Mashiach (Messiah) do to help struggling couples honor their vows? What can the Body of Mashiach do to embrace couples who fail to honor their vows!

NOTE: References are available upon request.

Shalom rav!

It was 1992. Daily, the city of Sarajevo was under siege. Mortars and artillery fire instantly transformed the once beautiful buildings into rubble. Sarajevo's citizens were frightened, weary and increasingly despondent. Then, one February day, a mortar shell exploded in the market killing 68 civilians and wounding over 200.

A cellist with the Sarajevo symphony could no longer stand the killing. He took his cello to the market, sat down amidst the rubble and played a concert. When he finished, he simply took up his instrument and left. Every day, for 67 days, he came to the market. Every day he played a concert. It was his gift of love to the city. He did it because he felt his community needed hope.

This story is reminiscent of a scene in the movie Titanic. As the ship was sinking and mayhem prevailed, the quartet continued to play music on the deck of the ship. These examples point to a type of hope in the midst of horrifying situations. Not just any old kind of hope, like, I hope it does not rain today, or I hope the traffic is light today. The hope we see in the cellist and the band playing is an extraordinary hope, which begs for our attention. For in the midst of these dreadful examples they continued their attempts to spread hope.

Yeshua (Jesus) the Anointed One, who came to provide hope to a dying world, provides extraordinary hope, which screams for our undivided consideration. Imagine, laying down your life for a good person or someone you are attempting to help or for a child or loved one. I imagine that many would eagerly give their life in these circumstances, but to give your life for someone who hates and despises you, I would suspect that many of us, me included would be reluctant or just downright refuse to die for someone we deem unworthy. However, Yeshua, the Son of the living G-d did exactly that. He died for a sinful and wicked world, so that through Him the world or better those who choose Him might have hope in this life and eternal hope in the life to come.

In I Peter, Peter or Kefa – His Jewish name, pens a letter to the community of believers living in northern Asia Minor south of the Black Sea in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bythinia. (I Peter 1:1) Peter writes to the Messianic community because like many of us, they were suffering. Their suffering was not because of a ban on being a Messianic believer during this period, but was due to the suffering as a believer in Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Christ) in a pagan and hostile world.

Praised be G-d, the Father of our L-rd Yeshua the Messiah, who, in keeping with His great mercy, has caused us, through the resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah from the dead, to be born again to a living hope, to an inheritance that cannot decay, spoil or fade, kept safe for you in heaven. (I Peter 1:3-4)

Peter recites the blessedness of being part of G-d’s family. He reminds the Messianic Community of G-d’s great mercy through the resurrection from the dead, the first fruit, the Savior, Redeemer and the living Son of G-d, who provides a living hope for the one born of G-d.

What is this living hope? Biblical or living hope is confident expectation. It is the expectation of good, joyful confident hope in salvation. In Hebrew, hope means teek VAH from the word Kavah which means to wait, and look for. Biblical hope is the confident expectation in the deliverance of the Savior not only in the future, but in the midst of our daily circumstances. A living hope is one that is thriving, organic, again, a constant expectation in the life of the believer.

The cellist symbolized hope in the midst of horrifying circumstances. On some level, their playing symbolized his steadfastness even though everything around him was chaotic and even though he realized the imminent death of others and his possible destruction. How many of us could have played during a gruesome time like that? How many of us could have even stayed around to assist others? How many of us are standing in the challenges we currently find ourselves, knowing that our hope is in the L-rd? Or, on the other hand, are we clinging relentlessly to our hopeless and dead idols?

As extraordinary as the cellist actions symbolized his hope during the bombing of Sarajevo, so much more ought we to place our hope in the living L-rd who offers us an inheritance that will not decay, spoil or fade. Hope as exemplified in the cellist who played during artillery fire in the city of Sarajevo begs for our attention. However, hope in the living Messiah not only demands our consideration, but also fulfills our inner most needs for the deliverance of the Savior in this life and the eternal life to come.

What is a living hope? A living hope is one that is thriving, organic, a constant expectation in the life of each believer. An organic hope trusts in the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Yeshua to do all that He promises in His Word. An organic hope in the living G-d, expects Him to provide deliverance in the midst of troubles and comfort during suffering.

As we go about our week, let us remember that Messiah is our living hope, our thriving, organic, constant expectation in our lives, regardless of our difficulties. Believe and know that we can look to Yeshua (Jesus) who provides hope and salvation through his death and resurrection for all that we need.

We serve a mighty, compassionate and loving G-d who desires intimate fellowship with His people. He desires for His people to put their hope in His Son the Living Hope! Know that G-d in keeping with His great mercy has caused us, through the resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus the Christ, the Son of the Living G-d) from the dead, to be born again to a living hope, to an inheritance that cannot decay, spoil or fade, kept safe for you in heaven. The “o” is missing for G-d and L-rd as a sign of respect and honor, for He is the Most Holy G-d, the One true One, the Creator, and Sustainer of the universe. He is the Uncaused Cause! By leaving the “o” out of G-d and/or L-rd, it makes the distinction that I am not speaking of an idol, or any other entity, which uses the name “god”. I am referring to the One true G-d who revealed Himself to Moses as the I AM. In addition, the first mitzvoth (commandment) tells believers not to take the L-rd’s name in vain, this is one of the ways to fulfill this requirement. Therefore, by eliminating the “o”, His name (HaShem, G-d) is not taken in vain, if the paper is thrown away, burned or destroyed in some manner. It is my intention to honor G-d in every area of my life, in traditional and non-tradition ways as directed and led by G-d’s Breath – the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit).

Ready or Not...He is coming!

<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
I just finished reading The Blessed Hope A Biblical Study of the Second Advent and the Rapture by George Eldon Ladd. In this text, Dr. Ladd chronologically and historically according to the Scriptures, the Church Fathers, Medieval and contemporary theologians expressed his arguments for a post-tribulation rapture, i.e., he contends that there will be NO secret pretribulation rapture of the saints. According to Dr. Ladd, the saints of G-d will probably go through the tribulation, but divinely protected as the Israelites were during the Exodus experience. Further, he suggests that the notion of a secret, pretribulation rapture is an inference and is a poor inference at that.

Now, for those of us believing in a pretribulation rapture, Dr. Ladd’s contention may be unsettling. Currently, I am not ready to definitively argue for or against Dr. Ladd’s thesis. My personal opinion and desire are of no consequence as it pertains to the Word of G-d. Yet, I will say, a post-tribulation rapture, if this is indeed the case, requires our preparation now and our being fully persuaded in the matters of our salvation. Nevertheless, Dr. Ladd made some very provocative statements. Let me mention a few.

First, Dr. Ladd spoke on the disunity within the Body of believers as it relates to the “time” of Messiah’s return. He suggested that the difference in opinion should not determine orthodoxy. I must say I totally agree with his assessment. Whether a person believes in a pretribulation, mid-tribulation or post-tribulation rapture of the Church at the revealing of our Savior, this should not stifle the purpose of our mission on earth. G-d has called his servants to be the salt and the light, and regardless of the time of His return. Our lives must reflect His will and our love towards Him and others.

Dr. Ladd also suggested that if his analysis is correct, then we should be teaching not only grace and the church will escape, but also the reign of G-d. In other words, we should be teaching about the GREAT NEWS of the Gospel and the Kingdom of G-d. Therefore, this would include G-d’s justice and His hatred of sin! This really got me thinking, because as a preacher, I tend to lean towards the love of G-d, His compassion, His mercy and His authority, but not so much towards His justice and punishment. The Word of G-d is filled with both. I really hate to think about folks who hate G-d and choose to live apart from His love. My heart pains when I think about their plight according to what G-d says will happen. This is why we must do a better job of modeling His love and integrity so as many as will – will be drawn to Him!

Finally, Dr. Ladd discussed Messiah’s delay. He suggested that His delay might be due to the millions of folks who have not heard about Messiah and the need for the Church to continue to labor in love while waiting for our blessed hope. He stated that Rabbi Paul lived as though Messiah were coming back in his own generation; but he worked and planned as though the world would go on for a long time. (156) How are we living as the Body of Messiah? Are we really doing all we can to drawn others in authentic ways and are we truly making disciples according to Matthew 28:19 & 20?

My point – regardless of your take on the Second Advent of our Savior, our living and our loving ought to reflect His imminent return. Our days of saying and teaching that we are one in Messiah and living a lie ought to come to a halt! Our days of ministering to "others" at the expense of our family is not G-d's best! The time is now for us to walk according to G-d’s will and to wrap our lives around Him, His will, His purpose, His way and His love! Ready or Not...Here is coming!

Blessings and Love to all!

Summer 2010

Summer 2010 - what can I say about this summer? So many new things happened for me; some great and some challenging. Yet, one thing I have learned is that G-d really is there to comfort and guide; and He does see us through! I learned that no one loves me like the L-rd! He sent blessings and people into my life to love, assist and befriend me during this difficult season.

So many times we hear about the goodness of the L-rd; we may even preach about His goodness and His provision. However, until it happens to us in a tangible way, our profession may be sterile theorizing. The main idea which rang consistently this summer - theology must equal praxis! Otherwise, our theology is in vain!

I am so excited about all the new things G-d is bringing my way for my growth and dependence on Him. This summer I had several opportunities to minister to others, individually and within a local body of members here in Atl. I visited the Monastery of the Holy Spirit and was very much refreshed in the L-rd. I have several other upcoming opportunities to minister and I can't wait to speak to G-d's people. Finally, I had several dinner dates with friends, family and coworkers.

All in all, I am totally grateful to my family and friends for their love and support during this past summer. Thank G-d for family.

As the new school year gets underway, I pray that all my fellow teachers will cherish their moments with their students and be compelled by the students' needs, instead of the budget cuts and challenges we find in the public school system. I pray G-d will open our students' minds and hearts so that they will learn and grow in profound ways.

Be blessed each one of you and praise G-d from whom all of our blessings flow!

Shalom!
dee

body of christians or The Body of Messiah?

For just as the body is one but has many parts; and all the parts of the body, though many, constitute one body; so it is with the Messiah. For it was by one Spirit that we were all immersed into one body, whether Jew or Gentile, slaves or free, and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 1 Cor 12.12,13

Always be humble, gentle and patient, bearing with one another in love, and making every effort to preserve the unity the Spirit gives through the binding power of shalom. There is one body and one spirit, just as when we were called you were called to one hope. And there is one L-rd, one trust, one immersion, and one G-d, the Father of all, who rules over all, works through all and is in all. Eph. 4.3.13

A single body – the Body of Messiah has been called by G-d to live in unity (Ps. 133.1); and by living in unity G-d has promised that He would be a blessing (Ps. 133.3). G-d hates strife and division among His people and those who sow discord among the family of G-d. (Proverbs 6.16 &19) G-d’s heart is that His family dwells in unity together.

In the beginning, G-d created man and woman in His image. What is the image of G-d? The image of G-d obviously has nothing to do with the physical attributes we see around us; because we all look different, we are from diverse backgrounds, etc., and we are earthly and G-d is Spirit. What is the image of G-d? The image of G-d, I believe is the part of our being, which is able to think rationally, make moral decisions, love and live holy lives, seek and respond to G-d. (Romans 1) Some theologians may beg to differ, but I believe that the image of G-d which is impressed in our being is our ability to choose G-d; in a nutshell, our will. Further, I believe the image of G-d is the basis for our desire to have fellowship with G-d. Prior to the fall, Adam and Eve dwelt in perfect harmony and fellowship with the Father. Once sin entered, that fellowship was damaged, but G-d set in a motion a way of reconciliation.

In the book of Colossians, Paul exhorted the Messianic Community to remain steadfast in the fundamentals of the knowledge of Yeshua, and not to be taken away or taken into heretical doctrines according to human tradition and elemental spirits of the world, which is not in accordance with the Messiah. (Col 2. 8-10) For Paul declared that our union with Him is in the circumcision by Messiah. We are therefore or ought to be buried in Messiah. And, as we are buried in Messiah, we are also raised up along with Him by G-d’s faithfulness. As we walk in this truth, G-d will and has wiped away the bill of charges against us, as we accept the redemptive work of Yeshua on the cross. However, we must clothe ourselves with love; love for not only our Creator and King, but for each other. We must choose to walk as Yeshua walked and that is in unity with the Father – He walked as one with the Father.

As believers in Messiah, we are to walk in brotherly harmony and unity, so that with one voice we are lifting up the name of Yeshua and living a life worthy of repentance or t’shuvah.

T’shuvah is the turning or returning to G-d; i.e., to the G-d who knew us before the foundations of the world, and the G-d who sustains all that we see. In our living, as it relates to our brothers and sisters in the L-rd, we must diligently seek to walk according to G-d’s plan and not our plan.

In Ephesians, we are exhorted to make every effort to preserve the unity of what the Spirit gives. What is the unity of the Spirit? The unity is in Yeshua, as we have been called, to One Hope, One Trust, One Immersion, One G-d and One L-rd.(Ephesians 4:5-6) G-d did not call us to splinter off in directions contrary to His calling and will for His family. He has called us to be united by the bond that is provided in the blood of our Messiah, whether Jew or non-Jew.

As we consider the Body of Messiah, we see division, strife and separatism of all kinds. Yet, G-d according to His Word has called us to be ONE in Him. Yeshua prayed in John 17.20 that we would be one, just as He (Yeshua) and the Father are one. The G-d who has created us is one – (Echad) and the model He gave us through our Savior screams loudly for us to emulate. G-d expects us to cast down our differences and various forms of evil behaviors, and embrace each other with the brotherly love, which unites us and exemplifies to the world that we are in Messiah.

In 1 Corinthians, Rabbi Paul tells the community that the lack of unity in the Body is due to immaturity, carnality and he rebukes them (the Messianic believers) for this divisive spirit. (1 Cor. 4.1-21). However, on a positive note, Paul argued that the church is an organic unity with diversity. What is organic? Organic can mean a growing, living and changing unit; and this very well could be Paul’s meaning. But, organic can also mean instrumental. So, if we consider the organic to mean instrumental – could Paul being speaking about the function, the means in which the Body is to operate, as well as being the natural living and growing unit for G-d?

Both ideas seem to fit. The diversity that Paul is speaking about is not to manifest itself in strife and division, but is to function in concert with the purposes and guidelines as set forth in G-d’s word. Paul pictures the church not as a body of Christians, but as the Body of Messiah. In other words, we are G-d’s servants, friends, children, prisoners, hands, feet, voice - His family in the earth representing Him as we live unto Him. Therefore, unity does not mean uniformity, but it does mean unity in plurality and purpose, as well as individual integrity.

So as an organic unit, each person has their place as determined by G-d and has appropriate functions or ministries which should be defined by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. The appropriation of gifts which are given by G-d without repentance are not for self-building or ego-feeding, but are for the building up of the whole body in love. This is the main idea in 1 Cor. 12:12-27.

The miracle of t’shuvah, returning to G-d is vital for each member of the Body of Messiah as it directly relates to the unity in the Body, as well as our relationship with G-d, and keeping His Torah (teachings). G-d is calling His Body to a closer walk with Him. G-d is calling His Body to unity in Messiah, because He is coming back for ONE BRIDE, ONE CHURCH, and ONE PEOPLE! He desires that our lives reflect His will, and glory so that others will be drawn to Him. Returning to G-d means turning away from those things, which pull us away from Him and in this case, (division in the Body of Messiah), strife, and disunity.

G-d’s plan is to create a holy living temple, which is made up of Jew and non-Jewish believers; He wants a Body of Believers who goes forth doing His will. We are called to walk in brotherly love to demonstrate to the world how good our Father really is! We have been equipped with gifts and talents for G-d’s purpose. Remember, these attributes were not given to conquer and divide, but to assist us in doing G-d’s will.

So, today in closing let us remember who we are commanded to love with all of our hearts, souls and strength. This is the first commandment. However, G-d did not stop there; He commanded that we love each other as we love ourselves. One of the ways we can exemplify loving each other is through unity in purpose, in living and preaching the miracle of t’shuvah.

Works Cited:

Stern, David H. (Hebrews 9.28) G-d designed this universe so that we don’t have to die many times, but just once. This passage of scripture in Hebrews 9.28 is paralleled with the sacrificial death of Yeshua, where His atoning blood once and for all bore the sins of many.
We should get excited about this, because even though we all have to die, we know that if we are in Messiah our fate is sealed in Him. We serve an awesome G-d who desires to be actively engaged in our lives in ways which draw us deeper into His love, in this life and ultimately in the life to come.
Sometimes this life is tricky and we don’t always follow G-d’s path of truth. However, G-d according to His grace and mercy provided a way of escape and refuge in Yeshua HaMashiach! Yet, it does not stop there. Each of us must choose G-d and we must choose to live for Him each day by following His commandments; and when we fail, we must seek His forgiveness and anyone we may have hurt along the way.
Be encouraged and live your life in such a way that G-d will be pleased with you at your homecoming (death)!

Shalom!

Delight Yourself in the Word of the L-rd Sample Prayers

Delight Yourself in the Word of the L-rd (Sample Prayers)

Prayer based on Psalms 136 and 147

How good it is to praise our G-d! The living Torah – Yeshua provides instruction, which is true and just. The fear of You oh L-rd is righteous and just, so I give thanks to You, and I sing praises to Your name! You have freed me from the tyranny of sin and the grips of hell, and for that, I am forever grateful and humbled by Your faithful love.
Oh magnificent One, be pleased with my serve this day, and may my words and thoughts be acceptable in Your presence for You are my Rock and my redeemer.
My G-d and Deliverer, please don me with Your Spirit today in a new and mighty way, as I minister and live for You. Grace me with Your Sh’kinah, (glory) so that my living will please you. Open my heart to receive all that You have and help me to be an example of Your pure and holy love. Draw people unto Yourself as You use me today to speak Your truths. Hide me behind the torture stake of Yeshua and strengthen me in the salvation You have provided. Create in me a clean heart!
I adore and worship you this day!

Praise the L-rd and write your own prayers, knowing that G-d's Word will not return void, for He honors His Word.

Blessings and Shalom!
d

Loving G-D Daily!

An obvious implication of prayer is the notion that G-D IS REALLY THERE! Really there - in the sense that He is personable, approachable, addressable, and really there in the sense that He listens and responds.

Prayer is one of the highest forms of worship. It requires spending time with the Father, and prayer requires seeking His will for obedient and righteous living. Prayer seeks G-d’s will in faith, believing in His power, His love, His mercy and His grace to answer all requests regardless of the answer. Prayer is the impetus to responding to G-d’s call of love and intimacy. Prayer is not only an expression of obedience, requesting, seeking, etc., but prayer is an expression of love to the Father. Prayer is the road where no other road can possibly lead. Prayer is a privilege believers have in Messiah. Finally, prayer is one of the ways we express to the Father that we love Him with our whole heart, Deuteronomy 6:5.

The first reference to prayer in the Scriptures, i.e., when people began to call on the name of L-rd is in Genesis 4:26. Prayer is pervasive throughout the Torah and the prophetic writings [Old Testament]. According to my study, King David wrote at least, seventy-three of the Psalms. These Psalms provide a guide for praying within the context of Scripture for modern-day believers. All the Psalms, especially King David’s are filled with love, devotion, humility, confession, worship, and thanksgiving towards the Heavenly Creator. These expressions of love for the Father are excellent examples of prayers for believers to use corporately or individually. G-d declared that heaven and earth would pass away, but not His Word, for His Word would/will never return void. Consequently, praying G-d’s Word is extremely pleasing to Him and pray from the Scriptures is always according to His what lines up with His will.

Yeshua [Jesus], the incarnate Son of G-d prayed to the Father; for example: He began His ministry in prayer, (Luke 3:21-22); Yeshua prayed in solitude, (Mark 1:31); and He wrestled in prayer before He went to the cross, and submitted to the will of the Father (Matthew 26:36-44). As the High Priest, Yeshua prayed for His people in John 17, and He currently sits at the right hand of the Father praying (making intercession) for believers, (Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:24,25; 1 John 2:1). According to the Complete Jewish Bible, Romans 8:34 …the Messiah Yeshua who died - and more that that - has been raised from the dead is at the right hand of
G-d and is actually pleading on our behalf! Wow! Did you get that? The verb usage signifies currently – as in the right here and now, actively, pleading (imploring, appealing, beseeching, praying, etc.) on our (YOU AND ME) behalf! Somebody reading this ought to shout Hallelujah, Glory be to G-d!

Praying, in addition to the study of G-d’s Word, and obeying His teachings [Torah] are ways for each child of G-d to love G-d daily. However, what does loving G-d look like?

Loving G-d takes on many forms, but it first begins with a yes response to G-d’s call of repentance and faith. A yes response will flow from a deep conviction of the realization that one is a sinner in desperate need of deliverance and salvation from the Creator. This realization can only begin to quake the soul as one begins to pay attention to the beckoning of G-d’s Holy Breath, i.e., His Holy Spirit.

In all of our attempts to live a separate life from our Creator, our best efforts fail as we foolishly push on without the help of our loving Father. We yearn and pant after so many false gods, to our on sanguine, instead of reaching and grabbing hold of the very garment of the L-rd. It is only through the blood of Yeshua that our deliverance, salvation, healing and all that we need in this life and the life to come is available.

It is very interesting to note that the autonomous behavior [living separate from G-d] we see rampant in our modern day society is the very behavior HaSatan [Satan] posed for Adam and Eve. HaSatan deceived Eve and Adam into believing that they could be just like G-d; in other words, they could function without or apart from G-d and would not surely die. We still operate in many areas of our lives separate and detached from G-d. However, our greatest attempts to operate separately from the living G-d is folly, as we are commanded to live holy and obedient unto Him with a heartfelt love, and devotion as we grow into submission and grace to His promptings.

Nevertheless, G-d did not leave us to our own efforts, nor did He allow the schemes of HaSatan to proliferate without any recourse! G-d according to His hesed or covenantal love provided a means of escape from the penalty of everlasting separation from His glorious presence. G-d, HaShem provided a Savior, a Deliverer, a Messiah, [the Christ] and a King! He provided Yeshua for all who might choose to believe in Him for eternal rest. (John 3:14-17, Romans 10:9-10).

Once we accept Messiah, we are completely righteous, holy, sanctified, delivered, free from the tyranny of sin, whole, healthy and prosperous as our soul prospers! We are all that we need to be and more in the L-rd. We are called fully equipped to do G-d’s work; commissioned, protected and provided for to occupy on earth according to G-d’s very purposes! However, with our acceptance of Yeshua as our propitiation [atoning sacrifice] for our sin debt, we must accept the responsibility to live a life worthy of the sacrifice He provided on the torture stake. We must live holy and obedient to His Torah [teachings]. Our salvation is one of grace and faith in Yeshua. We demonstrate our love and gratitude by living an obedient life. (James 2:14-26, John 3:36).

Once we have accepted Messiah as our deliver, the Holy Spirit, the very breath of G-d, seals our souls unto our full redemption. Messiah, Himself as our High Priest brings us to the goal of being set apart as holy for the living G-d, (Hebrews 10: 12-25). The goal of coming to G-d as holy and perfect is impossible in and of ourselves. Yet, in Messiah, our High Priest, all things are possible to those of us who believe, trust and obey His very Word.

Yeshua is the High Priest, and the Jewish Messiah of Israel and the World. He came to save the Jew and the non-Jew with His own blood, so that through Him we might live in contentment as being a part of His family. Our living must exemplify loving G-d daily in every area of our lives, (2 Peter 1:5-8); and when we sin, we must confess and turn from our failures, and pray for G-d’s forgiveness. We must do T’Shuvah. (1 John 1:5-10).

What does loving G-d look like? When we approach G-d, we must approach Him on His terms according to His holiness. We must love Him, because He first loved us, and we must keep His Torah [teachings]. We must recognize that we are in need of G-d each and every day, moment by moment; and we must approach Him through:

 Trusting faith in Messiah
 With a sincere, genuine, pure heart
 With wills and the desire to serve Him
 With hearts that pant and yearn for Him
 With hearts sprinkled clean [repentance] Exodus 36:25, Hebrews 10:22, 1 John 1:8-10
 With organic trust – i.e., growing trust and love each day
 With the help of the Holy Spirit who knows the workings of G-d and who will teach and assist us with our prayers 1 Cor. 2:10-12, Romans 8:26-28

Loving G-d daily requires spending time in prayer and living a obedience life. The prayers of the righteous avails much, and are as incense - sweet and aromatic fragrance in the nostrils of our Heavenly Father. G-d’s ears are open to our prayers, His arms are powerful enough to save us, and we have a High Priest who is constantly making intercessor for us, along with the working authority of the Holy Spirit to lead, guide and comfort us at every juncture! Therefore, be encouraged and spend as much time as you can praying, reading and living G-d’s Word. Let your life shine before all, so that the love of Messiah through your holy prayerful living will draw others to Him.

In my next blog, I will provide some praying material I have put together to assist you in your prayer life. I will include a sampling of prayers I have written, which are a combination of several Psalms as an example of how you might pray unto the Father. I will also include a few other praying Scriptures, and ideas I have collected from various books, articles, and other pastors over the years, as well as a list of the Names of G-d, which speak to His magnificent character and love.

However, the best prayers are right inside the Holy Scriptures and the best teacher is the Holy Spirit, who teaches us how to pray. Again, the Psalms are fantastic examples of prayers. In addition, the Disciple’s Prayer [aka: the L-rd’s Prayer] is another wonderful example found in Luke 11:1-4, and you might want to read the stories of the major biblical characters who prayed and conversed with the Father for more examples of ways to pray, for example Hannah, Hagar, Jeremiah, Isaiah, etc.

One final point - prayer begins with approaching G-d with a pure heart, which may take the form of many words, few words or silence. It may take the form of a song, a holy dance or the playing of an instrument. The main idea is to spend time with G-d each day and allow His love to embrace and nurture you as you grow in Him. There is so much more I would love to share, but I will close for now.

After reading this blog, and if you do not know Yeshua Messiah – Jesus the Christ as your personal Savior, Deliverer and L-rd, seek Him with all your heart! He will respond to you.

Much love and many blessings in the name of our Savior!
dee

<img src='http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jQ7jYhWZvgY/TA2efpZIogI/AAAAAAAAACA/7tS-KgDOxIA/s320/scan0001.jpg' border='0' alt=''style='clear:both;float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;' />

Friends and Fun

<img src='http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jQ7jYhWZvgY/S_8Y6LSsR3I/AAAAAAAAAB4/q5fS-4tViOI/s320/collage.jpg' border='0' alt=''style='clear:both;float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;' />
A very warm thank you to my dear friends who helped me move today! I was one of the many teachers who was displaced in Gwinnett County, which basically means I lost my position at my current school. However, I was placed in another school and I am very grateful to have a new position doing the same job. In addition, I had to supply my own boxes, pack and move myself. Needless to say, this was very stressful, because I did not know who would be willing to help me if anyone. However, several people took time away from their schedules and helped me! I am so very thankful and excited about the kindness they showed me. G-d always sends what you need, when who you expect does not show!

I pray that G-d will bless them richly for their kindness and I love their willingness to help out a friend in need! This is part of what living is about; loving, helping and sharing! It is one thing to talk about G-d and helping others, but it is something totally different to really be willing to walk the talk! Again, thank you to each one who assisted me!

A shout out to my new friends at Nesbitt Elementary School! I am looking forward to an exciting new year!
Have a happy summer!

Shalom!
d

Do you live with a Jerk?

Read below! I thought this was interesting.

Excerpt from Galatians 6: 7-10

"Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow."

Reflection by Lillian Daniel

I have always heard the expression "You reap what you sow." But I am not sure I really believe it. I see jerks get ahead in life. I see good people who work hard end up without fame or fortune. Do you really reap what you sow?

If all you look at is material gain in this world, then you would have to be an idiot to think you reap what you sow. Just think about the television show, "Celebrity Apprentice." A guy who built his fortune on his father's money, and wears the worst comb-over ever, gets to host a television show offering advice on business to celebrities who have no business running one. Clearly, we do not reap what we sow.

But if you look at this from the spiritual angle, it is actually true. Spiritually, I really do believe we get back what we put in.

The jerk who gets ahead by being a jerk still has to live with himself. And that means living with a jerk, twenty four/seven.

The person who treats other kindly, who offers respect to everyone, who spreads love in the midst of nastiness, that person gets to live with himself, too.

So, who has the better roommate?

Love Reflections

My son Raymond came for a brief visit from Korea. It was great seeing him and spending time with him. As I reflect on our visits, I am amazed at how fast the time has passed and how very little we get to see each other, because of the physical landscape which divides us. However, in reality we are not separated, because of the great love we have for each other. I am grateful for the time we had together.

This reflection mirrors in a very tiny way the love G-d has for His people! Even though we don't physically see our Heavenly Father, His presence is like the wind - we feel Him, we embrace His love, and we know He is there! (John 3:8)

I am often amazed by the great love G-d has for me in spite of my failures and flaws. His love fills my heart and guides me moment by moment as I am obedient to His will! Even more special is that G-d's love is available to all who choose to grab hold of his garment and journey with Him!

I am reading a book which speaks to the fact that our days must be propelled by our view of eschatology as the promise of G-d. In other words, we must base our today knowing that G-d's promises and love are our horizon and our goal! We might want to consider living in ways which are pleasing to G-d, since He promised He would be back, as oppose to living our lives independent of Him.

Love is one of those words which we hear - more often than its practices imply! I am encouraged to love G-d and love others, because He first loved me and continues to love me! I am encouraged to love those who abuse me, and mistreat me; even my enemies, because Yeshua modeled great love for those who hated Him.

Be encouraged to love others and spend time with them while it is today. Let those you love know you love them by your actions!

Shalom!
d

Hemmed In

When I was working on my Masters at Luther Rice Seminary, one of my professors insisted that we memorize Psalm 139 as one of the requirements for the course, and this morning, during my quiet time, I was compelled to read and pray this Psalm. I want to briefly share one of my impressions.

Psalm 139 is a profound psalm which speaks to the sovereignty of G-d, i.e., He is all-knowing and ever-present! There are several lessons we can draw from this particular psalm, but for the purposes of this piece, I want to focus on the hand of G-d. If you read vs. 7-12, you will notice that David’s first response was to flee or run from G-d. Nevertheless, where could he hide from G-d, for wherever he went, G-d was there! However, in v 10, David realized that G-d is not trying to entrap Him, but to lead Him into His presence.

So it is with us! Many of us feel whether justified or not, that we are trapped in negative situations and/or conditions irrespective of the source of the negativity. Our first impulse similar to King David is to flee, run, escape, hide, or take flight without consulting or seeking G-d’s will. Often times we look only at the natural circumstances, and fail to see G-d’s hand in the mix! And, if you are a believer in G-d, with faith in Mashiach, then G-d is in the mix!
Therefore, like David, we need to focus on the hand of G-d and follow His directive in whatever situation envelopes us, and from there, do what G-d says to do! This is extremely difficult because it means dying to self, and living unto Mashiach [Messiah]. However, if we could only remember that it is G-d’s love which draws us to Him, and that He will use whatever He feels is necessary to get our attention; we would weather pessimistic conditions in our life a lot fairer. Ultimately, our response is to notice and obey His leading.

Living in this world is hard sometimes, but in Mashiach we can be assured that His hand is leading us and not entrapping us! Therefore, be encouraged, persevere, persist in loving G-d and others, demonstrate your faith by good works, study His Word and share the message of our Savior; and know that G-d loves you and desires your undivided attention!

Shalom!
dee

Sins, Sins and More Sins....

In the context of the Scripture passage, (I Corinthians 6:12-20) sexual immorality appears to be a Corinthian slogan as it pertained to the customary sexual encounters of Corinthian men with prostitutes at the local temples. Rabbi Paul argued that this should not be the practice of followers of Messiah. [Apologetics Study Bible 1715] In addition, according to the Apologetics Study Bible, Paul is speaking about sodomy and not just sexual inclination or orientation.

However, believers in Messiah OUGHT to strive for holy living as commanded by HaShem our Father. All sin is bodily sin of sorts, because G-d’s very Sh’khinah (the Divine Presence; the manifested glory of G-d with and in humankind, Sterns, Complete Jewish Bible 1592.) dwells in the believer! Sexual sin could and does carry some additional consequences outside of marriage, such as unwanted pregnancy, diseases, abuses, not to mention the emotional and spiritual confusions and/or soul ties, which once confessed and forgiven, could still take many years to be erased from the heart and mind. However, sex like all the other sins, as well as addictions to sexual behaviors, (whether heterosexual or homosexual), begin in the mind and hearts of humankind; for the heart is desperately wicked, stated the prophet Jeremiah [Jer. 17.9].

The gluttonous person is consumed with food! The drunkard is consumed with drink! The liar is consumed with fantasies and lies! The angry person is consumed with bitterness! The thief is consumed with stealing! The fornicators/adulterers, and pornography lovers are consumed with all kinds of sexual deviate behavior! All these examples of sin are crimes against one’s own body, (even if it is only in their hearts). These manifested behaviors are contrary to G-d’s will, because He has set the standard according to His Torah (teachings).

The greatest bodily sin is idolatry according to Deut. 5.4-11; 6.4-9. Therefore, regular, habitual immoral behavior without a consciousness about our L-rd’s commandments, whether engagement in sexual immorality or any other sin, and which brings greater delight in the thing or deviant behavior, rather than obedience to G-d - is a serious matter and requires T’Shuvah (returning to G-d) in repentance and seeking His forgiveness!

Shalom!
dee

<img src='http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_jQ7jYhWZvgY/S52V2LwkPmI/AAAAAAAAABw/H9WNTSomcJ0/s320/snow+and+birthday+014.JPG' border='0' alt=''style='clear:both;float:left; margin:0px 10px 10px 0;' />

Delivered, Growing and Blessed!

Yesterday was my birthday and what a bitter/sweet birthday I enjoyed! My family showered me with love, gifts and a wonderful night at Aja's, an Asian restaurant in Buckhead. We laughed and thoroughly enjoyed our time together, and we are still celebrating!

Yet, I experienced such a deep sadness, that I almost stayed home! As many of you may not know, I find myself single again after many months of spiritual battling, toil, regret and shame. Yet, through this extremely difficult current experience, the hand of G-d is so evident that I just needed to share. G-d is truly the only ONE who can soothe a grieved soul and heal the pains we inflict on ourselves and others inflict on us.

Many claim that they are hearing the voice of G-d, but the evidence is in the fruit and the blessings which G-d's deems necessary to preserve HIS children. As G-d rescued the nation of Israel, provided for their needs and blessed them abundantly, I can honestly tell you, I have experienced such a flow of blessings in the last month, that I am overwhelmed by HIS goodness towards me.

I want you to know that I truly LOVE the L-rd, and that I am so very grateful that He chose to save me. I have been in the "VALLEY" growing, but finally, the mountain top is in full view.

Therefore, please listen if you have ears and a heart to hear! Regardless of where you find yourself, divorced, broke, abused, and used; ask for G-d's forgiveness, forgive the other person(s), surround yourself with like minded people, and trust G-d to deliver.

Finally, make sure that your trust is in the G-d of Abraham, Issac, Jacob and His Son, Yeshua HaMashiach [Jesus the Christ]! For there are many false gods, including ourselves.

Much Love in Him!
D

Helping Hands

Some preacher once said, that in order to get past your own hurt, we need to help others in an effort to become less SELF-focused and more OTHER-focused. Well, last week, I had an opportunity to work with many people who were OTHER-focused, and I was truly blessed! My experience benefited me, more than my efforts benefited those I was helping. WHY? Because I had an opportunity to stop thinking about mySELF and think and do for OTHERS, along with a bunch of great people!

I am really amazed at how many New Year's resolutions (including mine)rarely include helping others! Many of the resolutions I hear or read about speak to losing weight, spending more time with family and friends, stop smoking, get out of debt, and/or saving money, stop drinking, etc. However, how many New Year's resolutions revolve around giving up personal time and money to help those who are destitute, lonely, broke and hopeless, maybe even homeless? I don't know about you, but I am guilty as charged! And, unless the Spirit of G-d moves us to STOP thinking about ourSELF, we will continue to perpetuate self-focus and me-mE-ME! This is not G-d's best, for we are a community inside and outside of the church walls.

Prior to moving to this infamous peach state, I volunteered off and on in California during my teenage years and as an adult. I found my experiences extremely rewarding and loved the opportunities to help others and meet new people. However, since moving to Georgia, my interests, twisted by life circumstances hindered my desires to volunteer. Yet, due to G-d's nudging, one of my goals for this year is to be more OTHER-focused by getting more involved in community projects.

So, what does this have to do with you? I want to encourage you to find an organization and donate your time, money and talents to help others, especially if you find yourself depressed and sad. Helping others as a wounded healer, is the best way to recognize G-d's gifting and blessings in your life and the life of others! It is the best way to stop focusing on yourself, the drama and/or drudgery of this life!

Be a blessing to others! Love your neighbor as you love yourself! Spread joy and happiness! Be the salt and light, give first to G-d and then to others!

Shalom!
d

Actions vs Words!

Actions

It has often been said that actions speak louder than words. However, is this always the case? I wonder.

Sometimes words speak louder in the form of an email or a letter, yelling, screaming, exhortation, even silence. Sometimes the author’s purpose is lost in the reader or listener’s comprehension. Sometimes messages are read with such disdain that the true intent of the author’s purpose is lost. Then again, sometimes words can be used to hide pretentious actions. Hmm– not really sure. What do you think?

However, what I do know is that if we want others to think we are different or that we have been transformed by the Holy Spirit, then our actions have to look different and gracious, and our words whether written or spoken have to drip with honey. In other words, if we want others to think we are loving, then we have to act and speak lovingly. If we want others to think we have a pleasant and inviting personality, then we must display this as well. We cannot expect others to see or hear transformation within us when we act in the very way their criticism suggests.

We all see things fuzzy, even though our pride suggests otherwise, and our arrogance allows us to build walls of self-sustenance. It is my prayer that G-d shows us our pride and arrogance, and that we have the courage to change. Then, maybe, our words, as well as our actions will be steeped in honey, love, and all the precious goodness as modeled by our Messiah; and blogs, which questions one’s intention, will be obsolete.

Shalom rav!

Reflections on Dr. Brown's Commentary

I listened to Dr. Brown's radio broadcast about Haiti and I was very blessed by his message and encourage. I must admit I thought the earthquake may have been G-d’s judgment or maybe they were sacrificial lambs. But admittedly, I just do not know and I am really pained by the entire situation. I really hurt for the families there, and yet, I rejoice because my mom’s friend escaped this destruction, as well as many others.

It is very difficult for me to see and appreciate G-d’s hand (for I see extremely dimly) in this devastation, but I know He was there and continues to be watchful, because His knowledge covers the whole earth. I know that ALL things work out for the good of those that love the L-rd, but sometimes in the midst of crisis it is hard to wrap one’s heart and mind around this biblical truth.

I appreciate His comments in regards to Luke 13 which really put things in spiritual context for me, and I, like many others will continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti and G-d’s will in the lives of the people there.

In addition, we need to pray one for another, especially those of us who call ourselves, believers in Yeshua HaMashiach! We need not speak as one of authority about the workings of HaShem, but instead, continue to plead His mercy and graciousness in dealing with us!

Blessings !

Shalom!
d

Drawing

Shalom!

Old Testament Testimony of Yeshua (Jesus)

The Old Covenant’s testimony as to who Yeshua (Jesus) is may be seen in His identity and incarnation, His ministry, and His divine names. This brief essay will attempt to explore a few examples of the divinity and testimony of Messiah as revealed in the Hebrew Scriptures.
In his prologue to the Good News Yochanan (John) sets forth both the divine and human origin and nature of Messiah John 1:1. According to David H. Stern, the language used in John 1:1 echoed the first sentence of Genesis, and within the entire Tanakh (Old Covenant), G-d expresses Himself in ways, which laid the groundwork for the revealed Word and/or the work of Messiah. In addition to John 1:1, the identity of Yeshua revealed in the Tanakh is found in such passages as Psalm 110:1; 2:6; Isaiah 40:3; 9:6 and Micah 5:2. These prophetic passages from the Old Covenant teach allude to the pre-incarnate Yeshua.
Amos 3:7 says, "Surely the Lord G-d does nothing unless He reveals His secret counsel to His servants the prophet," therefore, many Messianic themes, seen in the Renewed Covenant appeared in Tanakh. Yeshua was revealed as the incarnate G-d in passages such as Exodus 3:14, Psalm 45:6, and Zechariah 12:10.
Many persons saw G-d in the Old Covenant according to Exodus 6:2-3 and Numbers 12:6-8. These appearances of G-d suggest that it was the pre-incarnate Yeshua. The appearance of G-d was not the person of the Father, because Yeshua said in John 6:2-3, that no one has ever seen the Father. Yet, according to Exodus 6:2-3, G-d appeared, and in Exodus 24: 9-11, Moses, Aaron, and seventy of the leaders all saw G-d. Again, since G-d the Father had not revealed Himself, the obvious conclusion is that this was the pre-incarnate Yeshua.
The ministerial service of Yeshua or that which He accomplished fills many passages in the Old Covenant. In Isaiah 9:6, and 40:3, G-d communes with His people. In Exodus 19 -20:19, Yeshua (G-d) gives some of the Torah [teachings, and rulings] to the nation of Israel. In Psalm 110:4, the author mentioned the priesthood of Yeshua as compared with Malki-Tzedek [Melchizedek] as a Cohen (High Priest) forever. These ministerial accomplishments of the pre-incarnate Yeshua allude to His reveal works of ministry, redemption and deliverance penned in the Renewed Covenant.
G-d revealed in the Old Covenant is Yeshua, and thus He is the Almighty G-d. In John 12:41, the Sh’khinah of Yeshua is the Divine Presence of G-d and this quote is from Isaiah 6:5. Yeshua is the Angel of the L-rd, who appeared to many in the Old Testament. He appeared as the Angel of the L-rd to Avraham [Abraham], Genesis22:11-33; Bil’am [Balaam], Numbers 22:22-23; Hagar, Genesis 16:7, 10, 11 and Z’kharyah [Zechariah] saw Y’hoshua [Joshua] the Cohen Hagadol [High Priest] in a vision as with the Angel of the L-rd and the accuser.
Consequently, since Yeshua is G-d, like G-d, He has many names, which speak to His deity, and His attributes. Yeshua’s names include, but are not limited to Adonai [Lord], Psalm 110:5; Mighty G-d, Isaiah 9:6; Everlasting Father, Isaiah 9:6; Wonderful Counselor, Isaiah 9:6; I AM/will be what I Am/will be, Exodus 3:13; YHVH Exodus 13:15. The names of G-d are extremely important because they are indicative of His nature, His attributes, and His holy character.
There are many more examples of the disclosure of the pre-incarnate Yeshua in the Old Covenant. In Deuteronomy 6: 4 Moses teaches the nation of Israel the mitzvot [teachings] of G-d. The most significant mitzvot states, Sh’ma, Yisra’el! Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai echad [Hear, Israel! Adonai our G-d, Adonai is one]. In John 10:30, Yeshua stated that He and the Father are one. Thus, Yeshua the very Sh’khinah of G-d, and the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are the same. Therefore, Yeshua is called the One, i.e., the one true G-d.
This extremely short essay has attempted to consider some of the evidence in the Hebrew Scriptures, which reveal the deity of Yeshua. Yeshua’s manifestations are apparent in His self-revealed identity, His incarnation, His ministry or activity, and in His divine names. The same Yeshua of the Renewed Covenant is the same G-d of the Old Covenant. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

I like many others are overwhelmed with the destruction and devastation of the recent earthquake in Haiti. Some believe that it is G-d's judgment and some say it is a natural catastrophe based on global warming! Others surmise, it is a sign of the last days as foretold by Yeshua (Jesus) in Matthew 24:14. Needless to say, we really do not know.

However, what I do know is that G-d's knowledge, glory and will cover all of the earth and the earthquake did not catch Him by surprise. Yet, for whatever reason whether judgment or sacrificial lambs, the pain, hurt and horror of the situation is hard to comprehend. I don't pretend to understand or know all of the mysteries of G-d, but I trust that He was there when those transitioned from this life into the next. I am confident that His compassion still prevails as does His will, and someday we will more fully understand the why of this most horrific event.

In the meantime, I pray that each person will contribute something to the relief effort, whether prayer, finances, etc. to help the people in Haiti.

Shalom!
